Racing Beginners Guide

For a day to remember come to Beverley Racecourse, Yorkshire's fastest growing place to be seen!

For those who have never experienced a day at the races before, here are a few hints and tips to make your first visit to Beverley Races a memorable one.

You can purchase tickets, known as badges, in advance of the race day (please see the prices page for details and contact information) or you can buy on arrival. However, for certain events we would strongly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

When you arrive, don’t forget to purchase a racecard so that you can keep up with all of the racing action of the runners and riders. This will also come in handy when it comes to placing a bet and information of what is happening during the meeting.

Your badge will allow you access to your chosen enclosure, where you can find refreshment facilities as well as the Tote and oncourse bookmakers.

How to bet

Whether you study the form, pick your favourite colour from the jockey’s silks or choose at random, if you want to have a flutter at Beverley Races, it couldn’t be easier.

Once you have picked your horse, go to one of the Tote betting kiosks in your enclosure, which are clearly marked or one of the bookmakers at Beverley.

You can then decide what sort of bet you wish to place. A simple bet on one horse to win is a good way to start but there are many other options to choose from, such as exciting accumulator bets.  Information on how to bet can be found in the racecard or on signs around the course.

Next, decide how much you want to bet. There is a minimum amount of £2 on all bets but this can vary depending on the type of bet you place.

Once you have placed your bet you will receive a slip to confirm your bet. Hang on to this whilst you excitedly watch the race to see if your bet has been successful. If so, congratulations! Take your slip back to the betting kiosk or bookmaker to claim your winnings.  If in doubt, they will be happy to check out your betting slip for you.
